Unboxing the May 2021 Dungeon Crate

Like everybody whose into subscription boxes, we love unboxing events: whether they’re in video or blog format. Plus, we’re always happy to give anyone a taste of the RPG goods they might have missed out on by not signing up for Dungeon Crate.

So here’s our unboxing blog for the May 2021 Dungeon Crate. We tucked some sweet (and savory) stuff into the crate and invite you to check it out. If you haven’t signed up yet or took a break, we hope you’ll join us soon!

Set of 3 Elemental Ink Pens - Shop of Many Things

Get tricksy with your words by using this set of three elemental ink pens. Write a secret message with a regular pen, use one of the elemental ink pens to disguise your hidden missive, and then reveal it with fire! Want to use the message again? Pop your parchment in the deep freeze for 30 seconds. The set includes one of each color: black, blue, and red. The whole Dungeon Crate team had fun playing around with this pen set.

DC Exclusive - Parchment Notepad

What you need is some fancy parchment to write hidden messages with that new elemental ink pen set. We got you covered with this original Dungeon Crate item. This notepad has 50 antiqued pages to add a little extra panache to your secret notes.

Magical Creature Snack Sticks - Mythical Meats

Magical creatures and jerky combine to create one wild, protein packed taste treat. This lean and mean snack stick is made from exotic game meats and packaged to delight. We choose from an assortment that included griffin, unicorn, Pegasus, and basilisk. One of our favorite Dungeon Crate fulfillment volunteers and GM to his own D&D group decided to write an adventure that included a griffin, unicorn, Pegasus, and basilisk so that when (or if) the creature was defeated, he could give the MVP a coordinating meat stick.

Galladon, Small World #77718 - Reaper Miniatures

Have you seen these cuties? From dragon-head staff to curled shoe tips, everything about Galladon is adorable. But his serious facial expression says he deserves respect. This highly detailed mini was sculpted by artist Gene Van Horne, cast in polymer, and is ready to paint or play straight from the box. It’s part of the Bones Dark Heaven line.

Lysette, Small World #77718 - Reaper Miniatures

Super cute and armed to the teeth, little Lysette did not come to play. Just like Galladon, this highly detailed polymer mini was sculpted by artist Gene Van Horne, comes from the Bones Dark Heaven line, and is ready to paint straight from the box.

Paint Brush

Miniature painters know you can never have too many brushes. Just like your dice collection, it’s nice to have a wide range of brushes to use. We gave members a basic flat brush that makes quick work of laying down a base color on your minis, bases, and terrain.

Dungeon Crate Exclusive - Salamadon Demon Art Print by Matt Owen

Prepare yourself for the blast of psychedelic color and a big dose of terror that comes from this original print from artist Matt Owen. The artist is from Sioux City, Iowa and uses a combination of watercolor, marker, and colored pencil to create his fiendish masterpieces.

Dungeon Crate Exclusive - Crusaders of the Lost Skull Temple D4 Trap Chart by Floyd

Floyd is known for writing notoriously deadly adventures. It’s his thing. We even add a Floyd Warning to everything he writes for us. This month we had him channel his evil genius into four deathly trap charts. Break out your lucky d4 and strive to survive his acid pool, toothy gallows, pyroclastic doom, and scorpion storm traps.

Dungeon Crate Exclusive - Set of 3 Random Room Cards By Dungeon Doodles

A favorite tabletop RPG exclusive from Dungeon Crate, these three random room encounters are a quick way to up the adventure in your game play. Slip one of these encounters into your campaign and watch what happens.

Nightcap - Think fungus folk are peaceful? Think again, friend.

Tongue Tied - Giant centipedes and a big old toad boss make for one creepy-crawly good time.

Just Keep Swinging - The motto of these reef sharks isn’t: friends not food. Swim faster!

Dungeon Crate Exclusive - Rivalo’s Guide to Hunting Owlbears by James Rodehaver

Dig deeper into the lore of owlbears with this guide, from an ongoing series of articles written by James Rodehaver. You remember James, he’s a GM for the popular live stream series, Dragons and Things. This guide is a fun read that gives a deeper understanding of how and why to hunt owlbears. GMs, use this guide to deepen your knowledge of all things owlbear so you can add flavor text whenever your PCs encounter this classic beastie.

Bonus Stuff!

If you’re new to Dungeon Crate you may not know about our bonuses. We like the concept of lagniappe and always try to put a little something extra in the crates.

Free Digital Crate Access

Dungeon Crate also has a Digital Dungeon Crate subscription that online players love. All members who get a crate also get access to the digital crate, which includes pdfs of all the printed goodies and extras to boot. We send out a secret access code each month.

Pssst...this secret access code also gives all members (digital and physical crate) 10% off our online store, all month long. Just shop from our online treasury, enter the code at check-out, and 10% disappears magically from your total.

If you don’t already, we hope you’ll find and follow us on all of our social media outlets. We’re on FacebookInstagramTwitterLinkedIn and Pinterest. You can also listen to our free DnD5e and Dungeon Crate podcasts and watch us on Twitch ,YouTube, and TikTok.
