Fridays at the Tavern: Marda Ravyn’s Midnight Stew

In our November 2025 Dungeon Crate we included a simple stew recipe that got rave reviews around our own game table. We hope you enjoy Marda Ravyn’s Midnight Stew:

Ingredients:

1 pound lean ground beef

1 tablespoon butter

1 tablespoon olive oil

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 small yellow onion, chopped

2 stalks celery, chopped

4 carrots, peeled & chopped

1 teaspoon kosher salt

1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

⅓ cup flour

1 cup heavy cream

5 cups chicken broth

2 small russet potatoes, peeled & cubed

1 can diced tomatoes, drained

1 tablespoon hot sauce

2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese

2 tablespoon Italian parsley, chopped

Recipe Actions:

  • Brown the Beef: Heat butter & olive oil in a dutch oven and cook beef until no longer pink.

  • Add Vegetables: Add garlic, onion, carrots, and celery. Season with salt & pepper.

  • Thicken: Sprinkle flour over the beef/veggie mixture & cook for a few minutes. Add cream, broth, potatoes, and tomatoes. Simmer until potatoes are tender.

  • Finish: Remove from heat, stir in cheese and hot sauce. Adjust consistency with water, if needed. Garnish with more shredded cheddar & parsley.
